Balcony lifts

As a profressional furniture removalist, there are occasions we come across when an item will not fit through a door,  or up or down a flight of stairs. In these circumstances we may be required to perform a balcony lift to avoid damage to the furniture or property.

Balcony Lift Depending on the size of the item, we may require additional staff to complete a balcony lift so if you think a balcony lift may be required for your move please discuss this with us when booking with our office. Please note that dangerous or difficult balcony lifts may incur additional charges. Additional fees may also apply if additional resources and/or technology are required.

Some examples of common balcony lift items include:

  • ensemble bed bases - these can often be too large to fit in a lift at an apartment complex or too large to fit up the narrow staircases on old terraced houses
  • oversized lounges - trying to put a 3-4 seater lounge in a top floor apartment using the stairs may damage the lounge or simply not be possible
  • wardrobes - large wardrobes often have problems getting up stairs in old terraced houses.

Furniture dismantling & reassembly

With the proliferation of flat-pack furniture, many items in Sydney houses and apartments have been assembled in-situ. Many of these items can be moved whole, though whether they should is a topic of endless debate in removals circles. There are a multitude of household items that may or will require a certain amount of dismantling and subsequent reassembly.

As we are primarily an hourly based service, it makes sense to have these ready to go before we arrive, however personal circumstance may not make this possible. All our staff have been trained in dismantling such items and are happy to do so on request. All of our trucks carry extensive toolkits including power screwdrivers to make this process as efficient as possible.

Examples of items that may require dismantling:

Slat based beds

Slat bed removal Though these come in a variety of difficulty, from simple drop in clips to multi layered seamless beds, Murphy beds or beds with lift-up under-mattress storage, there isn't a bed we haven't dismantled and more importantly, can't reassemble.

Baby cots

The majority of cots arrive in boxes and are assembled in the room, and whilst many will fit through the door to get out of the bedroom, many will not. Before a move, it is certainly worth measuring the door width against the width of the cot.

Flat-pack wardrobes

Flat pack furniture Tall wardrobes may require a certain amount of dismantling to get them out of the room or down any stairs at either the pick-up or drop-off. It is also of note, that many of these flat-packed wardrobes were never designed to be moved in one piece and do not always have the structural rigidity to make their moving in one piece a safe option. We will always try to avoid taking a piece apart if we can avoid it, however it can be difficult to balance trying to avoid damaging your furniture and trying to avoid wasting time taking a piece apart unnecessarily.

Dining tables

Removing the legs from a dining table makes it easier to carry, easier to fit through a door and easier to pack in the truck. It is recommended that, if the legs of a dining table can be removed, they are.

Disconnection& reconnection

Part of moving a property may include the transportation of items that are connected in some fashion, either to another item or to the property itself. Examples can include:

  • Washing machines & wall mounted driers
  • Fridges with plumbed water
  • TV / home audio / computers
  • Front / internal doors

There is no item that we are not happy to disconnect. When we arrive at a property and the washing machine is still connected, it must be disconnected to move and in the case of washing machines, we will reconnect it at the new property.

The majority of plumbed fridges will be simple to disconnect and usually have a tap to shut off the water flow for the purpose of disconnection. However, we are not plumbers, so unless the destination property has the facilities for the water to be reconnected we will not attempt reconnection. A side note to this is that the fridges that have water dispensers are the 'double-door' variety, which may require the additional removal of the doors to remove the fridge from the property.

Furniture packing Items such as TVs, home audio and computers should be disconnected and packed into cartons prior to the relocation. TVs and large computer screens generally don't require a box as they will be wrapped specially on the truck. If disconnection is not possible prior to the relocation we are happy to do this for you, however reconnection is only available in certain circumstance.

There are certain circumstance where an item won't fit through the front door of a property. If the item can't be dismantled in any fashion to facilitate this, we may need to remove the door to the property.
